Few are aware that the brothers Agustín Víctor and Miguel Casasola were pioneers of photojournalism in Latin America. In particular, Agustín Víctor, the older of the two, founded the first Mexican Photography Agency in 1911. On the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Italy, the Museum of Rome in Trastevere is hosting an exhibition that showcases a selection of black and white images from the Casasola Archive. These photographs document significant events of the first social revolution of the 20th century, which took place between 1910 and 1920. Among the key figures of that period and the photographic portraits are well-known names such as Francisco I. Madero, Emiliano Zapata, Pancho Villa, and Venustiano Carranza, to name a few. Today, the Casasola Archive is owned by the Mexican Government and is housed at the former Convent of San Francisco in Pachuca, Mexico.
