The Galleria Richter Fine Art opens the 2025 exhibition season with a solo show dedicated to Brian Scott Campbell (1983, Columbus, Ohio, USA), entitled "Fable." After the 2022 exhibition project, the artist returns to showcase a new group of works that mark his continued focus on the theme of the natural landscape, which is complemented by a recent interest in the urban subject of the automobile and a return to the depiction of the human figure in domestic contexts.
Although the scenes are didactic narratives of everyday moments, through intentional formal reduction, they operate as if they were visual archetypes: the figures resemble childish 'cutouts' of rigid shapes, and the simplified forms aim to evoke the idea of a tree, a building, and a car. Hence, the choice to title the project "Fable," a term that alludes to the concept of a fable, serves as a key to reinterpret urban and domestic daily life in the manner of a fable, an intentionally sincere and simplified experience.
The works are characterized by a deliberately reduced basic painting that abandons scientific perspective to arrive at a simplification of figurative and landscape aspects. The artist conceives the subjects of the works using memory and imagination. In the case of the painting of the car, he freely draws inspiration from advertising inserts, as well as the shapes and colors of children's toys. In this way, the exhibited works concentrate attention on geometric shapes, their colors, and the value of composition, executing a painting exercise at the limits of geometric abstraction.
